Frequently Asked CCW Questions:
I am planning a vacation in Oregon and would like to find out the
validity of my concealed pistol permit, as well as any regulations for
carrying my pistol.
Oregon does not recognize other states’ concealed weapons
permit/license. Carrying a concealed weapon in Oregon is considered a
Class A Misdemeanor as unlawful possession of a firearm. According to
ORS 166.250 "(1) Except as otherwise provided in this section or ORS
166.260; 166.270, 166.274, 166.291, 166.292 or 166.410 to 166.470, a
person commits the crime of unlawful possession of a firearm if the
person knowingly:
a. Carries any firearm concealed upon the person b. Possesses a handgun
that is concealed and readily accessible to the person within any
vehicle
We suggest that firearm(s) be placed in a storage container in the
trunk of the vehicle or a locked storage area in a motor home. If
pulled over, a person needs to make sure to notify the police that a
weapon is stored in a locked compartment of the vehicle.
I am a retired police officer and plan to travel in Oregon. What are the requirements to carry concealed?

However, 166.260 Persons not affected by ORS 166.250 gives us the
exceptions to that rule, the main one being: "(1) ORS 166.250 does not
apply to or affect:
(a) Sheriffs, constables, marshals, police officers, whether active or
honorably retired, parole and probation officers or other duly
appointed peace officers."
I am a Washington resident who has recently obtained a concealed
weapons permit issued by the State of Washington. Is my permit valid to
carry a concealed weapon while in the State of Oregon? If not, can a
non-Oregon resident apply for a permit?
Oregon does not recognize concealed weapons permits from any other
state. If you wish to review the law you can go to:
http://www.leg.state.or.us/ors/166.html and read 166.291. As you can
see from ORS 166.291(8) which says "The county sheriff may waive the
residency requirement in subsection (1)(c) of this section for a
resident of a contiguous state who has a compelling business interest
or other legitimate demonstrated need," the sheriff of each county has
some discretion for a resident of a contiguous state. You would need to
check with the sheriffs to see what their requirements are.
